Breaking Into the Industry

How am I supposed to be a clinical resource? I didn’t go to school for medicine.

The good news, virtually no one graduated from med school and then decided to be a medical device rep.

Your employer will provide any training you need to be effective in your role. Typically, you will undergo classroom training that explains specific anatomy, the clinical viability of your products, and sales strategy.

Supplemental to this, you should work in the field with established Reps and receive firsthand experience in the cases that your products serve.

Further, during your first few months, you’ll frequently communicate with Reps and your Manager and ask them any and every one of your questions.

You will learn a lot of information quickly to be a resource to your customers. It may sound like quite an undertaking, but take solace in knowing that this is the process every other medical device rep has gone through.
